Estimado Jorge:
En el Consejo Consultivo de ONGs para el Estudio de Violencia en contra de Niños y Niñas hay algunas informaciones preocupantes, que llevan a solicitar un mayor esfuerzo de parte de las Redes y coaliciones de derechos de la infancia de América Latina y el Caribe y por tanto tu apoyo para difundir de manera urgente esta información. Hemos comentado con miembros del Consejo, particularmente con Hel len van der Wall, representante por parte de el Caribe sobre esto.
Como la Redlamyc ha difundido, una de las principales recomendaciones derivadas del Estudio de Pinheiro es crear un Representante Especial sobre Violencia contra los niños y niñas por un periodo de 4 años, para asegurar un seguimiento sistemático al Estudio y trabajar con agencias relevantes de la ONU, mecanismos especiales, ONGs, la sociedad civil, niños y niñas y otros para así prevenir y eliminar la violencia contra los niños y niñas. La resolución debería pedir contribuciones voluntarias a los gobiernos para apoyar los costes principales de un secretariado pequeño pero funcional.
Se está trabajando para lograr que en la Sesión de Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas del próximo mes de Octubre, sea aprobada una resolución para crear el Representante Especial.
No obstante que nuestra región de América Latina y el Caribe es una de las más activas en apoyar la petición para la creación de este Representante, aún se requiere que más Redes y ONGs emitan su apoyo.
A nivel mundial se habían recabado hasta, hace unos días, 380 peticiones; al parecer nuestra región está tardando en hacerlo pues los países que más peticiones han recabado son: Estados Unidos (32), Reino Unido (27), Canadá (17), México (16), Turquía (16), Holanda (12), Bel gica (12), Somalia (10). Las peticiones de parte de América Latina y el Caribe son menos incluso que el número de votaciones logradas para sel eccionar al representante ante el Consejo Consultivo.
Además es necesario urgir a nuestros colegas de Bel ize, Colombia, Cuba, Guinea Ecuatorial, Guyana, Haití, Jamaica y Nicaragua ya que en estos que aún no se registra ningún apoyo a la petición por parte de ONG alguna.

In the NGO Advisory Council for the Study of Violence against Children there is worrying information which has led us to demand a greater effort by the networks and coalitions for the rights of children in Latin America and the Caribbean; and therefore your support to distribute this information urgently. We have discussed this with members of the Council, especially with Hel en van der Wall, the Caribbean representative.
As Redlamyc has made known, one of the main observations resulting from the Study of Pinheiro is to create a Special Representative for Violence against children for a period of 4 years so as to guarantee a systematic follow up of the Study and to work with the rel evant agencies of the UN, special mechanisms, NGOs, the civil society, children and others to prevent and do away with violence against children. The resolution should ask the governments for voluntary contributions to support the main expenses of a functional although small, secretariat.
We are working towards the approval of a resolution to create the Special representative in the General Assembly Session of the United Nations.
Although our region of Latin America and the Caribbean is among the most active to support the petition to create this representative, we still need the support of more Networks and NGOs.
Until a few days ago, on world level 380 petitions had been collected; apparently our region is slow in doing so since the countries with the most petitions are: United States (32), United Kingdom(27), Canada (17), Mexico (16)Holland (12) Bel gium (12), Somalia (10) The petitions from Latin America and the Caribbean are even less than the number of votes gathered to el ect the representative to the Advisory Council.
It is also necessary to urge our colleagues in Bel ize, Colombia, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica and Nicaragua since in these countries not one NGO has given its support to the petition.
